Spring Quarter is over!

Happy Summer

Course Outline

The course is intended to provide advanced undergraduates with a survey of equine genetics. Topics addressed include: the origin and domestication of the horse, the inheritance of coat colors and the genetic components of equine health, behavior and performance. The expectation is that, by the conclusion of the quarter, students will be able to identify important contributions in the scientific literature and be capable of understanding and evaluating the quality of such work.

The field of genetics is developing rapidly, especially as it relates to animal improvement. Graduates of this class should be capable of taking their current understanding of genetics and extending their knowledge as the field refines our appreciation of the role inheritance plays in equine biology.
